Roots Remnant is a Manchester-based live musical collective carrying the sound and message of Don Hartley. The band brings together musicians from different backgrounds, united by roots reggae, a love of live performance and a desire to explore faith, truth and lived experience through music.The name Roots Remnant carries two ideas at its heart.“Roots” speaks to the foundation of the music. Roots reggae carries a rich history of social observation, spiritual reflection, resistance to injustice and searching for truth. Roots Remnant respects those traditions while giving them expression through a righteous message shaped by Scripture and lived experience.“Remnant” speaks to the idea of remaining faithful. Scripture often speaks of a remnant, people who hold fast to what they believe is true when surrounding culture pulls in another direction. For Roots Remnant, this does not mean withdrawing from society. The band seeks to engage with real life, ask serious questions and give voice to matters of faith, conscience, struggle and hope.The band brings together musicians from different spiritual and cultural backgrounds. This shared musical space gives Roots Remnant a character of its own, while Don Hartley remains the central artist and voice behind the project.Inspired by Psalm 89:15, Roots Remnant believes there is something significant about people who know the joyful sound and walk in the light of truth.The result is a live roots reggae band with a full, organic sound and a message rooted in Scripture, while remaining open to anyone willing to listen.
